Ever since Liz bought a bottle of green Chartreuse, she’s been experimenting with ton of herby cocktail recipes. For the record, I don’t love Chartreuse. In fact, I go into the sordid details about my relationship with it in another post, so she has really had her work cut out for her. But I have to admit, time and again she has changed my opinion of the liqueur, and this is one of those instances.

MINTY FRESH

One thing I do like in my cocktail, however, is mint. It’s so refreshing, and in this instance, the Chartreuse intensifies that flavor. I think the next time we make this drink; I’m going to muddle the mint with sugar instead of just mixing everything with simple syrup. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ll keep you posted.

ADD SOME SPARKLE

This cocktail also makes a great base for effervescence. In fact, I personally prefer it that way, because I love anything with bubbles. Just make the drink as is, and instead of straining into a coupe, throw it in a tumbler with ice and top it with fizzy water. You won’t be disappointed.

  • Prep Time: 10 min
  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 Serving 1x

Ingredients

Scale

3 tablespoons gin (such as Hendrick’s) (1 1/2 ounces)

1 tablespoon fresh, strained lime juice (1/2 ounce)

1 ½ teaspoons simple syrup (1/4 ounce)

1 teaspoon Green Chartreuse (1/6 ounce)

4 large mint leaves, plus a sprig for garnish (optional)

Instructions

In a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice, combine the gin, lime juice, simple syrup, chartreuse, and mint leaves. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds, then strain into a coupe. Garnish with a mint sprig if you like, and serve.

Notes

A teaspoon of Chartreuse may not seem like enough, but a little goes a long way and you can add more to taste if you like.

For a lighter cocktail, stir the drink with the ice, strain into an ice-filled tumbler, and top with fizzy water
