Jen: You could say I’m a bit of a purist when it comes to certain recipes. Not that I don’t enjoy a good riff on a classic, but ultimately I really just crave the best possible version of a classic that I can get – enter the Employee’s Only Sazerac recipe. ⠀

Jen: Yes, there are literally hundreds of recipes for a “classic” sazerac, but this recipe is by far one my favorites. It’s perfectly balanced, tastes amazing and takes the edge off quickly – if you know what I mean. ⠀

For most of my life, I have felt as if I “almost

For most of my life, I have felt as if I “almost” love cornbread. First of all, it’s bread. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever passed up a carb in my life. And it’s a little sweet, almost like Hawaiian rolls or a beautiful challah. However, instead of being light, airy and yeasty, it has the texture of a dense yummy bundt cake. So what’s the deal? Why the almost? I’ll tell you. It’s almost always too damn dry! When it first enters my mouth, I’m thinking “yum!” Then, I try to swallow and it’s just stuck there. Next thing I know, there are crumbs stuck in my esophagus and I’m coughing like I’ve smoked for 20 years. ⠀

When I first moved to St. Louis, my apartment was smack dab in the wildest area of the Soulard Mardi Gras celebration. We had some seriously crazy escapades (from what I can remember…it’s all fuzzy.) But one thing I always managed to do was make a giant pot of Zatarain’s jambalaya with sliced sausage. And every year, it was the best meal any of us had ever had. I thank you oh-dear carbs for soaking up all of those hurricanes in my belly. ⠀

Now, we might not party like we did in our 20’s, but I like to think that we are still pretty damn fun. And now we actually have functioning kitchens and sometimes behave like grown adults. So, I still make my jambalaya, but it has been “spruced up” over the years. It’s one of my go to recipes for large, laid back gatherings. Next time you consider making a giant pot of chili maybe go with jamabalaya instead. You won’t regret it! Link in bio! ⠀
